KBC Athletes Win Big!

With 160 fighters competiting in the Provincial Championship in Vancouver in 2022, Kelowna Boxing Club won big, bringing home multiple medals.
“All four of our athletes medaled—Nate Webber, Aubtin Sharifpour, and Logan Clouthier took gold, while Sarah Habib earned silver. Logan was also named Best Boxer of the Tournament and made history as the first amateur to land a behind-the-back punch in the finals,” said Head Coach Dave Habib.

Success Stories

Braydon Horcoff
From Novice Fighter to Champion
"Be relentless, and if something's hard... it's probably worth it."
When Braydon Horcoff first walked into Kelowna Boxing Club in 2020, he never imagined he would become an international boxing champion.
Coming from Island MMA in Victoria, Braydon’s journey to KBC started when his former coach, Jason Heit, encouraged him to train under Dave Habib while he was living in Kelowna during COVID.

At first, the gym was an intense challenge and he endured more than a few broken noses. Juggling university, work, and boxing matches made time management tough, but with the support of his coaches, teammates, and family, Braydon pushed through. Despite starting as an average novice-level fighter, he credits Dave’s unwavering belief in him as a turning point.
“I didn’t think I could hang with the best in Canada or B.C.,” Braydon recalls. “Dave told me I could be a national champion—I thought he was crazy.”
Braydon’s hard work paid off in a big way. In 2022, he won the B.C. Provincials and the Western Canadian Championships, but his biggest achievement came at the Haringey Box Cup in London, England—one of the most prestigious amateur boxing tournaments in the world. Braydon fought some of the top European fighters, won the tournament, was named Best Male Athlete, and helped Team B.C. secure the Best Team award.
Beyond titles and trophies, boxing at KBC shaped Braydon as both an athlete and a person. One of his proudest moments came when he got to spar with Bryan Colwell, one of his first coaches and a fighter he once paid for private lessons. Years later, he was helping Colwell prepare for international tournaments and Olympic qualifiers—a clear sign of how far he had come.
But for Braydon, KBC was more than just a training ground—it became a second home. “Dave Habib is the single most influential person I’ve ever met,” he says. “I grew tremendously while living with him and his family, and everything I have in my life today, I owe in part to the Habib family.”
When asked what he would say to those thinking about stepping into the ring, Braydon shares a simple truth, “Boxing isn’t something you recommend—if you want to be a fighter, no one’s going to recommend it to you. You just have to want it.”
Braydon walked into Kelowna Boxing Club in 2020, not knowing that decision would change his life. Today, he leaves with titles, lifelong friends, and a family in Kelowna that will always be in his corner.
